Buy or Build a media server PC?

I am thinking about building a media server for my home network mostly for watching movies but I might also want to create a DVR. I have seen an HP ready made media server and that would obviously save time. It runs about $750 with 1 tb of hard drive space (2x 500gb).

Opinions?

Just comparing that wiht my local retailer who has a pc with:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Socket-AM2 Boxed
MSI K9AGM3-F AM2 AMD 690V DDR2 VGA
1024 MB Apacer DDR2/667 Dimm
2x WD 500 GB S-ATA-II U300 7200RPM 16MB
NEC AD5200A DVD±RW Dual Layer OEM zwart
XFX GeForce 8400GS 256MB tot 512MB DDR2
Fortron Source 350W PSU ATX 2.0
Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyb. OEM USB Zw
Microsoft Optical Basic Mouse OEM Zwart

For just 567,95 Euro's - well thats a few million dollars by today's exchange rates - it seems a lot more computer for a bit more money
