Lego movie - How to?

How do they make those 'movies'? What programs to use? Cameras and so on
My son (11) wondered if we could make one. But I figure it takes a lot of work...
Anyone know about this?

Its called stop motion. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_motion)
Literally each frame is changed and then photographed.
So set frame, photograph, change slightly, photograph.
Lots of time, but not too hard if you put your mind to it. Just need a tripod.

Just like Mr. Pop said. You have to create each frame in real life, and fotogaph it. You can reuse some frames, like on 00:14 in the example you gave. It is just an iteration of two frames. The speaking is just one same frame and they put/remove a black shape on the mouth to make it open/close. Making such a (little) movie requires a lot of time, work and patience. Good luck if you try to make one!

if it were me i would use maya or lightwave , even poser . it would look more realistic that way. the mouths were made in flash. it was overlayed on the original movie.

not a big deal. and for an added effect you can actually mke your characters legs move and not skip over the floor. just my opinion. it takes time, but if you want it professional looking i would use what i mentioned.

Come on Reaper, 'if you want it professional looking', lol, surely the point of lego movies is to be un-professional. I could never EVER laugh or enjoy a lego movie that wasn't done cheaply and badly, for pure fun, and just crap. A bit like the original star wars,done really badly, and that was part of the magic so to speak.

lol i knew it would get ya....i know that the stupid humor comes from the way it is made...but if i know no_way he would want to make it perfect with his kid. no_way strikes me as being a bit of a perfectionist at times. lol!!!

it is all good. i may try it when i get time. high def would be cool.
