![]() I started this shed right after the first of the year, four months later the outside of my shed is nearly completed. This thing is 17 feet long and 11 feet wide and it has two separate rooms. The upper level room is for my wife to store the countless tons of junk she regularly purchases and the lower level room is a small workshop for me to hide in when I'm turning fine American hardwood into sawdust and shavings. From the ground up this building was mostly framed with 6" x 6" beams locked together using Japanese ship building joints that I cut by hand. The arch top windows are double paned safety glass windows that were intended as inserts for steel skinned residential doors. I picked them up at a salvage yard for five dollars each. The upper level room still needs a lot of internal work. At this point the plan calls for at least forty cubicles twelve inches wide and twenty two inches deep to accommodate lidded boxes we're getting from Ikea, plus a cedar lined closet for hanging winter jackets and other things that aren't needed most of the year. In the lower level where I am putting my workshop, I've already built a small bench and put in a few smaller shelves for miscellaneous stuff. I plan on moving the majority of my portable power tools and hand tools into this thing when it's done so the only things left in the garage will be a big planer/jointer, my band saw, table saw, compressor and a milling machine. Once I get the shed finished and all the stuff moved into it I'm going to build a three car garage plus a bigger workshop in the backyard and then I can convert the existing garage into another bedroom and bath. Originally I wanted to rent a backhoe and build an underground pistol range in the backyard but, since this is Los Angeles County, I might have a hard time getting a permit for that. Eventually this place is going to end up looking like the Winchester Mystery House but by then I'll be 115 years old and probably won't care. I just like staying busy.
