I am not sure if I answered your question. Atleast directly, lol. Get a dog. You can never have enough dogs.

Not a bit cruel. In fact it is cruel to travel with pet unrestrained. If your car crashes they go flying and suffer fatal injuries. I can't tell you how many dogs die in crashes, but I can tell you that, being an emergency nurse, how often folks are brought into the ER after a crash and they ask about their pet & are told that the pet did not make it.
Check it out here & see the great variety of restraints & seats available to keep your pet safe---
DOG CAR HARNESS
this is the one Yoshie has-
Small Dog Pet Booster Car Seat up to 15 lbs
I cringe when I see dogs in the bed of pick up trucks. When the driver needs to hit the break in an emergent stop, their pet goes air born and dies. Inside car it is not much different, they hit the windows.
So restrain your pet if you value them. Would you let a child ride unrestrained?

LOL ---
I know many folks that have better behaved dogs than kids.
It's a different love...
A dogs love for their human is unconditional.
I love my kids unconditionally also~ but there sure have been times that they tested it!!! LOL..."if you really loved me you wouldn't have grounded me.." etc, etc...
I am so glad they are all grown!

I hate to type this but I used to prefer my dogs to my sis. Since I don't have pets anymore, I prefer my laptop to her. You would understand me if you ever meet her .
