Remember the troops this Christmas

Christmas is almost here, but not quite. You probably have big plans to spend the holiday with family and friends.

But let's not forget the troops that won't have the luxury of being home with their families. Instead, they're doing their patriotic duty overseas. But you can do something to show them your support.

If you're tuning in to Mannheim Steamroller's An American Christmas, you'll probably hear ads for America Supports You. It is an organization that helps people find ways to support our troops.

NOTE: This site not just for Christmas only. If you get a chance, read the thank you from some of the troops and see what they did with some of the things they received.

Instant messaging anywhere

Instant messaging (IM) is handy for long-distance conversations. And unlike phones, most IM programs allow you to exchange files as you talk.

The only problem with IM is that you're chained to your computer. On a friend's PC or a public computer, you may not have the luxury of IM programs. So how can you stay in touch?

Meebo answers this question with a Web site that acts as an IM program. All you need is a Web browser, so you can IM from pretty much anywhere.

Meebo works with AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger and more. Just use your login name and password as normal. The only difference is that you're using the Meebo site to log in.

You can also create a master Meebo account. It allows you to log into multiple accounts simultaneously. For example, you can chat with friends on MSN Messenger and AIM at the same time. Meebo shows your buddy list for each account.

If you have your own Web page, you can add a Meebo chat window to it. Your visitors can use the window to chat with you if you're logged into Meebo.

Cost: Free

Countdown to Santa

Tomorrow is the big day. But for your children, the next few hours will seem like the longest time of the year.

They'll be anxiously awaiting Santa's arrival.

So hop on NORAD's Santa-tracking Web site. Starting today, you'll be able to track Santa as he makes his way from the North Pole to millions of houses across the country.

And, if the anticipation becomes too much for your children, there are activities to keep them occupied. There are puzzles, a coloring book and even music. This will help time pass a little faster.

How Products Are Made

Are you curious?

It's astounding to think about how many products are available on the market. There are literally millions of things you can purchase.

But I often find myself wondering how things are made. It can be something as seemingly simple as a gallon of paint or as complex as a car.

At How Products Are Made, I've found the answers to many of my questions. And it's simply fascinating to read the descriptions.

You won't find everything on the site, obviously. But you can find out about hundreds of products.
