Hack to turn your Windows Home Edition CD into Professional Edition

I found this hack from Technipages and I think it?s pretty cool. It enables the features found in Windows XP Professional on your Windows XP Home Edition installation with this hack. It will allow you to turn your Windows XP Home CD into a Windows XP Professional CD. Now Microsoft is going to be pissed about this.

Follow the steps below on how to turn your Windows XP Home edition CD to professional!

Note: If your Windows XP CD does not contain Service Pack 2, you might want to Slipstream Your Windows XP CD first as you will not be able to upgrade an installation after using the CD.

1. Copy the root directory and the i386 directory of the WindowsXP CD to your hard drive.

2. Extract the Bootsector of your Windows XP CD. You can use BBIE to do this.

3. Click START?>RUN?>REGEDIT

4. Highlight HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

5. Click FILE?>LOAD HIVE and select the Setupreg.hiv file
This file is located in the i386 folder. Use the one you extracted to your hard drive from your Windows XP CD.

6. Locate the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Homekey\ControlSet001\Services\ setupdd

7. Edit the DEFAULT key and change the following values:

01 to 00
02 to 00

8. Change the name to the value HOMEKEY to anything.

9. Locate the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Homekey\ControlSet001\Services\ setupdd

Edit the DEFAULT key and change the following values:

01 to 00
02 to 00

10. Highlight HOMEKEY and select FILE?>UNLOAD HIVE

You can now burn the data on your hard drive to a CD to make a new Windows XP CD. Then use the CD to install Windows XP. Be sure to make the CD bootable. You can use the instructions here to help you do that.
The weird thing is your Windows XP Home serial will still be valid.

Reset Or Change Administrator Password On Windows XP

Here?s a quick and easy way to change your administrator password on Windows XP.

1. Place your Windows XP CD in your cd-rom and start your computer (it?s assumed here that your XP CD is bootable as it should be - and that you have your bios set to boot from CD)

2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your CD Typically, it will be Press any key to boot from CD

3. Once you get in, the first screen will indicate that Setup is inspecting your system and loading files.

4. When you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to Setup Windows now

5. The Licensing Agreement comes next - Press F8 to accept it.

6. The next screen is the Setup screen which gives you the option to do a Repair.
It should read something like If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it
Use the up and down arrow keys to select your XP installation (if you only have one, it should already be selected) and press R to begin the Repair process.

7. Let the Repair run. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files which can take several minutes.

8. Shortly after the Copying Files stage, you will be required to reboot. (this will happen automatically you will see a progress bar stating

spoolsv.exe at 99% CPU usage

Got a call from a friend and he told me he his computer is acting very slowly. When this happens, mostly it is due to spywares. The first thing I?d do when a computer is running really slow is I run the Windows Task Manager and check which image name is using up all the CPU resources. I found out that an executable file called spoolsv.exe is at 99% usage all the time and never goes down. I tried ending the spoolsv.exe process but after a few seconds, spoolsv.exe automatically runs in background and start hogging on the CPU usage.
From the file name, I could guess that most probably it had something to do with printer spool. I searched around the Internet about spoolsv.exe and it?s not a virus. spoolsv.exe is the spooler service responsible for managing spooled print/fax jobs. After a while, I manage to find a way to solve the spoolsv.exe from shooting up to 99% cpu usage problem.
It is advised to turn on the Print Spooler service first. You can do it from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Look for Print Spooler and stop it.
If it is already stopped, just follow the next step.

Delete ALL files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS. It should have files something like 00020.SHD, 00020.SPL and etc?

Now spoolsv.exe should run but it?s at 0% CPU usage. Nice fix found at tim?s journal

Pop a banner each time Windows Boots :

To pop a banner which can contain any message you want to display just before a user is going to log on, go to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WinLogon

Now create a new string Value in the right pane named LegalNoticeCaption and enter the value that you want to see in the Menu Bar. Now create yet another new string value and name it: LegalNoticeText. Modify it and insert the message you want to display each time Windows boots. This can be effectively used to display the company's private policy each time the user logs on to his NT box. It's .reg file would be:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Winlogon]

"LegalNoticeCaption"="Caption here."

Secure your Desktop Icons and Settings :

You can save your desktop settings and secure it from your nerdy friend by playing with the registry. Simply launch the Registry Editor go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer

In the right pane create a new DWORD Value named NoSaveSettings and modify it's value to 1. Refresh and restart for the settings to get saved.

Stop the Error Reporting Service

If you are tired of reporting errors to Microsoft or being prompted to,
turn that service off.

1. From the Services console, double-click Error Reporting Service.
(Remember, in Windows XP Home, the Services console can be
opened by clicking Start | Search and searching for and opening
the Administrative Tools folder, in which you click Services. In
Windows XP Professional, you can open Administrative Tools from
the All Programs list.)
2. To stop the service, on the General tab, click Stop.
3. To disable the service, on the General tab, in the Startup Type
options, click Disable.
4. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Auto Login Windows XP without typing password

Every time you start your computer, you’re prompted to enter password in order to login to Windows. You find this irritating when no one else is using your computer that is sitting at home.

Just follow a few simple steps below and you won’t be bothered by this login prompt every again!

Just follow a few simple steps below and you won’t be bothered by this login prompt every again!

1. Click on your Start button.

2. Go to “Run”

3. Type “control userpasswords2″ and click OK button.

4. A User Account dialog box will appear. Uncheck “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.” and click OK button.

5. Another dialog box will appear asking you to type in the DEFAULT user account that you’d like to login whenever you start your computer. Type in the user name and password. You only need to do this once

That’s it. Only requires 5 steps to automatically login Windows XP. Please take note that this only works if you’re trying to login locally. This feature allows other users to start your computer and use the account that you establish to automatically log on. Enabling auto logon makes your computer more convenient to use, but can pose a security risk since anyone can just turn the machine on and access your files. So be VERY sure that no one else has physical access to your computer.

Steps to Hack into a Windows XP Computer without changing password:

1. Get physical access to the machine. Remember that it must have a CD or DVD drive.
2. Download DreamPackPL from Official website or from Rapidshare.
3. Unzip the downloaded dreampackpl_iso.zip and you’ll get dreampackpl.ISO.
4. Use any burning program that can burn ISO images.
5. After you have the disk, boot from the CD or DVD drive. You will see Windows 2000 Setup and it will load some files.
6. Press “R” to install DreamPackPL.
7. Press “C” to install DreamPackPL by using the recovery console.
8. Select the Windows installation that is currently on the computer (Normally is “1″ if you only have one Windows installed)
9. Backup your original sfcfiles.dll by typing:
“ren C:\Windows\System32\sfcfiles.dll sfcfiles.lld” (without quotes)
10. Copy the hacked file from CD to system32 folder. Type:
“copy D:\i386\pinball.ex_ C:\Windows\System32\sfcfiles.dll” (without quotes and assuming your CD drive is D
11. Type “exit”, take out disk and reboot.
12. In the password field, type “dreamon” (without quotes) and DreamPack menu will appear.
13. Click the top graphic on the DreamPack menu and you will get a menu popup.
14. Go to commands and enable the options and enable the god command.
15. Type “god” in the password field to get in Windows.
You can also go to Passwords and select “Logon with wrong password and hash”. This option allows you to login with ANY password
Note: I was unable to bring up the DreamPackPL for the first time because I have Kaspersky Anti-Virus already running in background. I believe most antivirus already labelled this tool as a Hack-Tool. A Hack-Tool is NOT a virus. DreamPackPL helps you bypass the Windows Login screen and it is not destructive
