Fast and Easy Ftp Server Setup for Gene6

This can get your ftp setup in less than two min if you follow these simple instructions without fail. You will still need firewall off or by-passed

this is a basic gene6 setup guide using port 21 and port mode (active) instead of passive. You can easily add passive later but will require port forwarding.

if you have more than one computer you will have to use port forwarding in your router to send it the the right address which you can find at: start/all programs/accessories/comand prompt and type in ipconfig will be the ip address of your computer.

you can goto www.http://portforward.com and then goto port forwarding to find your router and use that as a guide to setting up your router

It is not necessary to use passive mode at all.
================================================== =========
@Install Gene6 @ accept all defaults
@ Do not worry about 127.0.1 or port 1086
@ In the left column you will need to see the following

Screen shot is here

Notice the word "Domains" is highlighted

You actuall start here on the word "Domains" and not further up the list.

@Click in the big box and add a new domain. You can name it anything you want or accept the default name and change it later.

a. first box
@ you can simply choose "next" at the bottom of the box or fill in the info..... it is up to you, and then click on the word "next"

b. box two
@ leave the asterick alone
@ if you have a router already set up for a port go ahead and put it in here, otherwise leave it on 21
@ leave ssl alone for now untill you get this working ( can edit it later)
@ click next at the bottom of the box

c. box three
@ simply accept the defaults and click next on the bottom

d. box four
@ This is where you create an anonymous account (you need one)
@ use the button and choose a worthless folder which has a few files (can change it later)
@ click "finish"
e. In the box that comes up, look on the left, and fourth from the bottom is "IP Binding", click on that

f. you wil have an asterick, port 21, and regular only in the top box
g. in the bottom box.. put a tick where it says disable passive
h. at the bottom of the box, click on port mode
click ok at the left side

YOU NOW HAVE A WORKING GENE6 FTP SERVER SETUP IN PORT MODE ON PORT 21
================================================== ==========

If you would like to add passive mode go back to ipbinding and simply untick disable passive
put your ipaddress from the cable co, or no-ip.com address where it says "redirect passive"
put in the ports you decided on and have setup in your router. I use 50000/50100

( you only need four ports to make this work) Some people are limited by the router as to how many they can use.
