Godaddy always has good prices for domain names. If you search in google for godaddy domain coupons you can find one that gives you 10% off. Godaddy also makes it easy for a newbie to manage the domain name. If you also need hosting look at reviews and check out http://solonethosting.com . They have helped me set up everything for my rugby site. = )
I actually found a coupon code that will let you register the domain name for 6.96 "chill3"

If you are in the UK then 123-Reg are quite good. http://www.123-reg.co.uk/domain-names/

Personally I recommend to take hosting and domainname in 1 package (mostly that is anyway the case). For a beginner that is the best thing to do, and you don't have to worry about anything. Your host makes sure everything works for you.

#2 Get a design
Buy or make yourself a nice design. Don't forget that for an entreprise it is important that your website looks professional. (Best thing to do is to contact a professional designer.)

#3 Get some coding
If you want a static website, you can use just HTML, but if you want a dynamic website and interaction with your customers (visitors) that you should PHP (or ASP or...).

Yeah but when you decide to move to another host it will be a pain to get them to unlock the domain name and give you the epp code. As opposed to if you had a domain with godaddy all you would have to do is change the name servers.

Yes true, but those hosts who don't want to release the domainname are... bad.

namecheap.com are good for domains, as for hosting, hostgator are quite good, reliable and cheap.

I do not recommend 123reg purely because they area a pipex company, and I had one domain with them and I spent over an hour on hold before tehy sent me to the wrong department and put me back on hold... their customer service is not the best...

I personally use Netfirms for my hosting they are decent and well priced. and I've never run out of bandwidth with them nor even come close.
plus on the pack i'm on I can host unlimited domains using my one account, make an FTP for each of them, so I can offer people hosting on my account for even less then I pay.

Don't go with Pipex for hosting either... bad bad bad company, so many things wrong.
